Looking for another dessert to add to the table of treats this holiday season? Here’s a quick dessert that’s easy to make and doesn’t require many ingredients.

RICE KRISPIE TREATS

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 5-10 minutes

Total time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

6 tablespoons salted butter

16 oz bag mini marshmallows, divided

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 cups rice krispies cereal

Food Coloring of choice (optional)

Holiday M&M’s (Mini M&M’s or Regular M&M’s it’s up to you) (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Line a 9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, then set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, add all but one cup of the marshmallows. Reduce heat to low and continue stirring until completely melted.
  3. Remove from heat then stir in the vanilla. If adding food coloring, add it now. Add the cereal (I like to mix half the cereal in first then the second half to make it more manageable), if adding M&M’s add them now then add the remaining 1 cup of marshmallows.
  4. Pour into the prepared pan. Press GENTLY with your fingertips just until completely spread out (the harder you pack them in the harder they are to eat).
  5. Allow them to set, 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
  6. Cut into squares (or any shape you please) and enjoy!

NOTE – you can make them gluten free by using gluten free rice krispies and check the marshmallow brand for gluten. Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows are usually gluten free.
