Aya Saleman (She/They), who is a freshman, part of multiple clubs such as Anime Club, GSA, and Theatre Club, along with being the co-web designer for The Peak, has a lot of potential as a writer and as a news reporter. In fact, writing is one of her biggest hobbies. They enjoy writing whatever comes to their mind, mostly to do with mystery, fantasy, and horror stories since it’s what she most enjoys reading in their free time. Aya does/plans to write for the following branches to do with The Peak, such as opinion pieces, Arts and Entertainment, and Human Interest, such as local plays and musicals along with big new music releases. Aya has many other creative outlets, including drawing. She mostly does digital art, designing original characters, making fan art, and creating fictional words from their own imagination. They also dabble in theatre, love musicals, and hope to join a Mountainside production at least once in her four years of high school.
When asked where she would go if they could go any place in the world, she said Turkey because some of their family lives there and it would be nice to connect with her Arab roots and language, mostly because of their dad, who grew up in the Middle East and loves cooking foods and introducing his family to all kinds of experiences. Aya also says because of how beautiful it would be to live there, along with affordable housing right near pretty much everything, it's like a whole city in your backyard! There are also tons of pre-historic landmarks and buildings that are inspired by European cultures and architecture, such as the Grand Bazaar and the Topkapi Palace Museum, and she would love to go and visit many other countries in Europe, such as France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and other Middle Eastern territories and places such as Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria to be able to visit their dad's birthplace, and meet her cousins if not due to the unfortunate circumstances happening there. They said that traveling is going to be her dream goal one day they will accomplish.
If Aya was ever asked what her personal statement and style are, ranging from fashion to music to even interests in the creative world, they said it doesn't matter that much to her. She enjoys listening to rock and metal music on a daily basis, and their favorite artists are Slipknot, System Of A Down, Ghost, Megadeth, Evanescence, The Killers, Destroy Boys, and Radiohead, so far. She also listens to indie as a casual listener, and their favorite singers are Beach Bunny, Mitski, Cavetown, Tally Hall, Cults, Wallows, and Surf Curse. They really like the colors black and pink together, and prefer alternative fashion with a mix of a comfortable feeling. She also likes the grunge, scene, and emo style and movement, and finds all to be exceptional in their own way. They love hairclips, rings, zipped jackets with prints, cropped tees, baggy jeans, suspender skirts, and chunky shoes. She is very big on fandom culture and would love to write articles having to do with multiple shows and movies they like.
When Aya is not busy doing anything relating to journalism, art formation, and theatre shenanigans, she enjoys watching anime and cartoons, which they say is a big influence on her personal style and appearance, and loves hanging out with her cat, Natalie, while aspiring to become a cartoonist or author someday. You can find Aya on the following social media websites here below. Go Mavs! And try not to get eaten by a maverick, obviously lol.
